Bruce Whittington has been birding for over thirty years, and an active member of natural history organizations most of that time. It was an easy move to leading field trips and writing articles in naturalist newsletters and Bruce has been writing about natural history, and birds in particular, for over twenty years. For ten of these years he wrote a weekly column called "Island Birds" in the Victoria, B.C. Times-Colonist. He has also written for many magazines about birds, birding, gardening for wildlife and birding optics.Many of his articles are illustrated with his photographs.Bruce has made over 50 trips to Alaska as a naturalist aboard ships of Holland America Lines. In 2004, Bruce's first book, Seasons With Birds was published by TouchWood Editions in Victoria, BC. Bruce's first book with Stray Feathers Press was Wildlife Watch on an Alaska Cruise , published in 2007. It has been well-received. In 2010 his second Stray Feathers Press title, What's That Island? was released. Bruce is a Professional Member of the Professional Writers Association of Canada, and belongs to a workshop called the Chemainus Writers. In 2008 he was elected to the municipal council of the Town of Ladysmith. |
